How Your Typing Speed and Accuracy Are Scored
Your final result is based on two numbers: words per minute (WPM) and accuracy.
Words per minute
By standard convention, every five correctly typed characters (including spaces) count as one word.
Example: 250 correct characters in 60 seconds is 250 ÷ 5 = 50 words in one minute, so your speed is 50 WPM.
Typing accuracy
Accuracy is the percentage of characters you typed correctly. Mistakes lower your accuracy and make it harder to reach the required score.
This test requires at least 80% accuracy to pass.
What Is a Good Typing Speed? WPM Levels Explained
Use this guide to see how your result compares. These are general benchmarks for English typing.
| Level | Speed (WPM) | What it means |

6 Tips to Score Higher in the Global Typing Test
Small habits make a big difference to both your speed and your accuracy.
Accuracy first
Every mistake costs time. Type slightly slower until your errors drop, then build speed.
Use all ten fingers
Keep your fingers on the home row and return to it after each key press.
Eyes on the text
Avoid looking at the keyboard. Touch typing builds muscle memory much faster.
Keep a steady rhythm
Consistent flow beats bursts and pauses. Don't stop to dwell on a single slip.
Check your posture
Sit upright, relax your shoulders and keep your wrists level with the keyboard.
Practice daily
Ten to fifteen minutes a day beats one long session each week.
Practice Before You Compete
Build your speed with free lessons and practice tests, then come back and set a new personal best.
